I have been very active in Saline
County Politics for several years. I am currently the chair of the Saline
County Young Democrats. I worked with a grassroots groups to organize the
surrounding counties. I have worked on several campaigns for Presidential,
State and Local candidates. My family has lived in the Salina-Falun area for five generations. My ancestors were farmers, and my parents still operate a small farm. My father is retired from the US Air Force and currently works in a factory, and my mother owned her own retail business for several years. Such a background has given me a broad knowledge of how the economy affects all the people in my district. After my Father retired from the United States Air Force we
moved to just outside of Assaria. I
attended and graduated from Southeast of Saline High School. I attended Fort Hays State University and
graduated from Cloud County Community College with an Associates Degree in
Horticulture. Currently I am the Landscape Supervisor at Rolling Hills Wildlife
Adventure where I have been employed for 10 years. I have lived in the 69th district
for nine years. Some of my passions include preserving the environment by being as green as possible. I have served on the City of Salina tree board where I am currently chairmen of the board. I feel strongly about conserving energy and using our natural resources to produce energy. Expanding wind and alternate sources of energy will result in a cleaner environment and new jobs in green technology. The state’s budget is a critical issue and the focus of my
campaign. Schools in the 69th District are facing serious cuts in
state funding. Kansas has made great
strides in improving the quality of education, and I do not want to see budget
cuts jeopardize those efforts. I would also focus on
sustaining and increasing economic development in Saline County. It is crucial that we keep good jobs in the
69th District and bring more jobs to the area. State income may be increased through tourism
and economic development. Finally, I believe that healthcare should be affordable,
competitive and available to every Kansan. I enjoy working with youth and their families. I have in the
past served on the Salina Area Vo-Tech horticulture board, 4-H Program Development
Committee, and Falun Lutheran Church Council. I have always had a commitment to community service whether
it is helping sandbag a community against flooding, picking up liter along the
highway or serving on advisory boards. There are going to be some hard decision
made in Topeka the next few years and I want to be there to promote and protect
the interests of the 69th District. I would work tireless for the 69th District. |
